Life long learning & continual development

Whilst I have been a massage therapist for over 25 years (yikes!), I still continue to develop my skills and learning as often as I can. I think that this is essential for all massage therapists (and maybe for us all as humans in whatever sphere we are living and working in). Why, you ask? Let's explore...

Keeping things fresh
Even if you love what you do, feeling as though you can do it with your eyes closed doesn't always feel fulfilling! Learning some new ideas can help to keep things interesting for me and my clients.
New research & developments
What we know about the body continues to change and develop. Scientists and researchers are often finding out new things, such as the connection between emotion and the physical body and the gut-brain connection for example. I like to keep up to date with these so that I can give my clients the best treatments and advice.
Adding value
When I know more, my clients benefit. Whether that is incorporating different techniques into my massage, or offering different treatments. This means that my clients get the best that they can for their investment in my treatments and services.
Adaptability
I treat a diverse range of clients, from young to old, athletic to injured. Learning different skills an help me to continue to offer the most effective techniques to each client, something that I think essential. I don't offer a massage routine that is the same for each client (not knocking that it's just not my style!) but instead like to work with the person as they are on that day. This might mean a lighter touch, deeper work or incorporating different techniques.
Brain food
So here's the admission - I am basically a nerd and I love to learn! It keeps my brain ticking and gets the creativity going!
I have recently been using more thai massage style stretches and techniques and incorporating more slow, myofascial release in many of my treatments, based on recent CPD courses (you might have noticed if you have had a recent treatment!). I have a few more CPD courses planned fo rthe year, including learning Reiki and bringing in some more energy work. What's your favourite massage technique or style of massage? What treatments would you like to have that I don't currently offer? Let me know at charlottelattin.wellbeing@gmail.com or let's chat at your next appointment.
